Hope Estate

This is my winery. In 1994, I gave up pharmacy to do something I loved - to make wines. I thought if I could make good wines, with a bit of luck, other people would enjoy them. And so far, so good.

I get involved with everything about the making of Hope Estate wines - from the picking of the grapes right through to the bottling. Perhaps, a little too involved if you talk to our viticulturist or our head winemaker.

But it's only because I want every bottle that comes out of the winery, with the Hope name on the label, to be a wine I am immensely proud of. And, hopefully, you'll enjoy drinking them as much as I enjoy making them. ---- Michael Hope

The Wines 

The whole thing about Hope Estate is that our wines should be the best they possibly can. To do this the entire process has to be done on-site, from growing to bottling. This means that we're responsible for the grapes being picked at precisely the right moment.

If we think a vintage would be better if we extended the ageing process, we won't release it until it's ready. If the season has been too dry or too wet and adversely affected certain batches of grapes, we won't use them. If we think we can improve a vintage by using a technique that may take longer than other wineries, we do it.

The success of our Chardonnay is testament to this commitment. We ferment each individual batch of Chardonnay in 100% French Oak barrels. We then blend only the best of this Chardonnay. This gives us a complexity of flavour that the critics rave about and our friends love to drink. Ultimately, making good wine is what we're about.
